Preview: Neuro Ophthalmology Overview

This course is awarded .5 group A credits by JCAHPO. It is intended for beginning and intermediate levels.

After completing this section the student should be able to do the following:

  • Identify a neuron and its parts
  • Define afferent and efferent nerve pathways
  • Define excitatory and inhibitory actions
  • List Neurotransmitters in the autonomic nervous system
  • List the layers of protection around the brain
  • Define the function of the cerebrum
  • List the 3 parts of the brainstem
  • Identify 3 of the cranial nerves that contribute to eye function
  • Define saccades and pursuits
  • Identify what the acronym MLF stands for
  • Identify what eye defects would accompany a 3rd, 4th, or 6th nerve palsy

This course should take approximately one half hour to complete.

You must correctly answer at least 16 of 20 questions on the open book post test to earn JCAHPO credit. If you do not successfully pass the post test the first time you may try again at no expense to you.

Neuro-Ophthalmology Overview offers a basic introduction to Neuro-ophthalmology and includes some of the information offered in this course. It is appropriate for students at the beginning level
